We ordered two barred rock hens back in August. In November they both began crowing. They are healthy, beautiful birds, but the 85-90% gender accuracy claim is inaccurate. Cackle refunded our money, but now we have to find homes for these guys and start over with new chicks.
We ordered 3 barred rocks, 6 golden comets and 6 white leghorns (sexed female). They sent us an extra leghorn and comet. All turned out to be healthy females. I waited awhile to write this until I saw results. We started seeing eggs about 5 months later. So far, so good.
I ordered 15 barred rock chicks i got 17 healthy happy little chicks didnt take any time for them to run to the feeder and start eatting and drinking will be ordering from cackle hatchery from now on for my poultry needs
Great service!! My chicks arrived quickly and very healthy! I ordered 16 but received 17, 5 buffs, 6 red, 5 barred rock and my special order, Easter egger rooster who is beautiful! Will definitely order from them in the future!
We order 16 chicks (7 of which were barred rocks). They all arrived healthy and happy! The hatchery was very informative on initial care of chicks once they arrive, and because of their great care and advice all 17 (one extra was sent) chicks are alive and healthy!!! Thanks so much Cackle Hatchery!
We ordered our barred rocks, and received all happy healthy babies! We have ordered from cackle hatchery before and they have never disappointed. Not only are they helpful and friendly, they provide all the information you could ever ask for
I ordered 25 barred rock pullets, all arrived safely. Extra chicks were shipped along with my order, I lost 2 chicks (one did not grow much after the first week -Failure to thrive) But I still have the same amount that I had originally ordered. Sexing was 100% accurate (note that they only guarantee 90%)!!! I was very impressed because of poor business with previous order from another hatchery. All the pullets are healthy and great quality birds. Definitely will be ordering from Cackle Hatchery again!
Very Happy with our Chicks. Ordered 5 Barred Rock, 5 Speckled Sussex, 5 Easter Egg chickens and there were an extra 2 in the box, which Im not sure but I think Easter egg Chicks. Thank you all very much.
I purchased some Barred Rock chickens from Cackle last year, and they have done very well. I appreciate the care that is taken to make sure that good quality stock is sent to the customer. I will definitely recommend and purchase from Cackle in the future.
We would like to thank you for letting us come pick our new baby chicks up and seeing your store! Our youngest son had so much fun seeing all the babies and picking out extra ones we bought that day. As you can see he was very excited to ride home with the chicks. Our other three children are having a great time feeding and playing with the babies. We are also very excited because the first group of chickens that we purchased from you last March have just started to lay eggs. Again we thank you for our fun day.
These birds are gorgeous and sweet i ordered a barred rock chick and few others they fellow you around the cage and outside of the cage.in 2015 i went to a show my barred rock in ABQ NM at the state fair and grand champion of the American classthanks cackle for my wonderful birds
Last year I purchased a dozen chickens six barred rocks and six Austra Whites. i am pleased with them. All of these girls are healthy and ornery at a year old. They are just now at nearly a year old starting to lay eggs. All of the eggs i have found have been quite large, surprising for pullets. They are all loaded with personality. With the exception of a few chickens I obtained from neighbors and friends, at least 3/4 of my flock came from Cackle Hatchery. Even the mixed breeds that I hatched out indirectly came from your hatchery since the parent birds were hatched in your facility. We have 23 chickens in all and I am always getting compliments on how good they look, as well as how friendly they are. I just wanted to say thank you for these fine quality birds that I get to enjoy having around. Thank you
First time I ever ordered chickens. My 40 chickens are doing great! They were born July 1 and growing in leeps and bounds. I will purchase more in the spring. They were very healthy when they arrived. Just wanted you to know how happy I was with them. Keep up the good work.
I just wanted to say thank you! This was my first experience with chickens!. All chicks arrived safely and none were lost! The tracking was great. I knew when the chicks arrived and was able to be at the PO when it opened. Your YouTube videos and chick care instructions are fantastic. The chicks are now one week old and doing great. Again, thank you so much for making this a great experience.
The Barred Rock (Plymouth Rock) chicken is one of the all-time, popular favorites in the U.S. They can't be beat for steady, reliable chickens. This Heritage Breed was developed in New England in the early 1800's by crossing Dominiques and Black Javas. Since then, the breed has spread to every part of the U.S., and is an ideal, American chicken. This breed of chickens is often referred to as a Plymouth Rock, but that title actually refers to the entire breed, not just the Barred variety. Other varieties include Buff, Partridge, Silver Penciled and White.
These hardy, dual-purpose chickens are known as prolific brown egg layers, and the hens are not discouraged by cold weather. At maturity they are solid and plump with yellow skin, which makes them a beautiful, heavy roasting fowl.
I live in Northern New Hampshire. This will be my first experience with chickens. When would you recommend ordering my chicks? I have have a coop ready for them when they are ready to be moved outside ThanksJason You can order them at any time. The chicks will spend their first 6-8 weeks of life under a heat lamp.
I have barred rock chickens and they are the production breed. My chickens have pale legs and beaks and not bright yellow. Does your barred rock chicks have bright yellow legs and break? If so, do you have pictures? Our Barred Rocks are a Production Breed. They do have yellow legs and yellow beak, however the brightness will vary.
Our gorgeous Barred Plymouth Rocks are a cut above! "Barred Rocks" are one of the most popular dual-purpose chickens on small farms today and we recommend them as one of the best breeds for beginners.
If you are looking for a breed that is suitable for a family setting, this could be your bird. Barred Rocks are known for being friendly towards children and adults. They do enjoy a cuddle and a fuss, and many become lap chickens!
I love my barred rocks. Both rooster and hens hang around whenever we are outside and follow us around. I love the attention and the talk. He is the best rooster taking care of his hens and protecting them.
I love, love, love my barred rock hen and she loves me. She jumps in my lap and takes a nap. As a layer she is also great. I entered her eggs in an egg show and she got first place. She is three now and the egg production has dropped off but she is my buddy. This spring I got three more babies but no chicken can compare to Ellen DeHeneres!
I love my barred rock, I got a few last year with my small flock of others. They got along with my leg horns and red island rhodes. They are hardly and easy to care for in the summer they literally would free range the yard (12 acres of land) and they laid steadily if not almost 5 times a week when I was keeping track. They are easy going and easy to handle after owning them they became quiet tame and friendly.
Is this service free?If the value of the items in your cart is over $100, the sourcing service is complementary. We offer feed, bedding, health products and more: -health-supplements. Note, the cost of the chickens is not included in the $100 limit.
What breed is best for kids? All chickens when handled and cared for are friendly, but there are some breeds that tend to be just a little more ideal for kids. Our top recommendations are, Plymouth Rock, Isa Brown, Australorps, Wyandotte and if you are ok with smaller less frequent eggs, then bantams are our top pick as they are the perfect mix of easy to keep, cute and fabulous personalities.. We love Bantma Silkies, Pekins, and Cochins.
Disclaimer: You must purchase one of our chicken coops. Chickens are subject to availability. It can take literally 30 minutes to a few weeks depending on your location, breed type, colour choice, rarity and time of year. But don't worry, we're very good at finding poultry in Australia for our customers. We have probably one of Australia's largest list of breeders. Regardless we'll find you your chickens!
You might be able to guess from its name that the Plymouth Rock Chicken is one of the oldest chickens kept in America. These chickens were named after the famous landing place of the Pilgrims when they first came to America and were one of the first established heritage breeds.
With the growing trend of keeping chickens personally at home or on a homestead, the Plymouth Rock chickens have found a renewed level of demand. The Barred Plymouth Rock is the most popular color variety of the Plymouth, having beautiful plumage of black and gray bars on each feather.
Overall, although they are still active for chickens, they have a sweet, docile personality. They have been known to become lap chickens, follow their keepers around, and enjoy getting stroked and attention from you.
Overall, Plymouth Rocks are considered a pleasure to own since they enjoy much more human interaction than other breeds and tend to get along with other chickens in their flock. Even the roosters are known for their relative docile nature. 041b061a72
